Experience Cultures in the pearl Africa Uganda, Uganda is very diverse country , the culture of Uganda is comprised of variety ethic groups of people. The country in its not only being small but having the highest number of tribes / groups of people, its over 52 culturally diverse population make the potion of Uganda. These ethic groups have their own beliefs, culture, traditions, dressing, food and many others.
The Bantu tribe makes the biggest potion of ethnicity in Uganda with majority living in the central region though in central is more 80% tribes, eastern region and southern region of Uganda. The northern region is mainly made up of Milotic’s tribes like the Acholi, Lugbaras, Langi, Iteso Karamojong’s whom up to date their culture still standing, IK people and much more.
English is the national official language of Uganda and Swahili comes in as official language too, but English was spoken as the official language in the country but its the second language after our mother language like Luganda for Baganda the biggest tribe, Lusoga for Basoga, Lutoro for Batoro, Lukiga for Bakiga, Lunyankole for Banyankole Lucholi for Bacholi and more. The two languages the English and Kiswahili are most popular in Uganda followed by Luganda the native language of the Baganda and the sad thing is big percentage of people in rural areas not speak English but they are very good in speaking their mother language and Swahili.
When it comes to the AGE groups, Uganda definitely rankers as the number one in the whole world to be among with the youngest nation. This is because over 60% of the population in the country is under the age of 17 years, this is clearly evidenced when you are on a journey into the country you will mostly identify kids are more in numbers compared to the adults.
Clothing; the official dress for the country for ladies in Uganda that is Gomesi and Kikoyi where for the men is Kanzus. The kind of dressing is mostly shown on the traditional functions and events especially traditional marriages also referred to Kwangula that dressing mostly in Buganda group of people and the Mushanana for west that is Ankole, Batoro , and traditional dressing were backcloth and hides form animals also wear it in traditional functions.
Religion, according to the religion in the country , most of Ugandans are Christians, this make them up to 85% of the population in Uganda , followed by the Muslims who make about 12% of the population and the remaining percentages are shared by other religions also makes the country with culture according to the believes.
Food in Uganda; the most common food consumed in Uganda is matoke, Uganda is among the exporters of matoke to whole world according to the statistics , most of the households basically live on matoke and posho most especially in the rural areas of the country. Other food staffs consumed in the country are foods like the sweet potatoes, cassava, millet, ground nuts, beans, green vegetables, yams and more. Uganda also has variety of local drinks like the Malwa which is highly consumed by Iteso, Bagishu and other tribes , kwete, mubisi, Bushera and much more, most of these local beer is consumed in rural areas especially in the western and eastern part of the country as there tradition drinks.
