Experience the Pearl of Africa’s Culture Uganda; the Uganda culture is very diverse, Uganda’s culture is comprised of variety of ethnic groups of people. The country is comprises the total number of tribes of about 52 tribes, culturally diverse population make the potion of Uganda, these various ethnic groups have their own beliefs, culture, traditions, and much more.
The Bantu tribe takes the biggest potion of the ethnicity in Uganda with the majority living in the central region, the eastern and the southern region of Uganda. The north is mainly made for Nilotic groups that is Iteso, Acholi, Langi, Lugbaras , Karamajonjos and other tribes in region.
English is the official language spoken in Uganda and Swahili also used in the country though English is the second language after our mother language, For the passed years there has been a debate about making Kiswahili official language national wide but this is still hangs up. The two language are the most popular in Uganda followed by that of Luganda the biggest language spoken in the country “Luganda” the native language of Baganda. The sad thing is a bog percentage of people in rural areas are not speaking English but Swahili is spoken.
Clothing in Uganda ; the official dress in the country is Gomesi for ladies and Kikoyi for the men is the Kanzuzu. This kind of dress is mostly evident in most of the traditional functions and events in Uganda especially the traditional marriage in the Baganda tribe known as Kwangula and the Mushanana in the western Uganda in Banyankole , Batoro, Bakiga and other tribes in west But traditionally each tribes in Uganda have their way of dressing like central Back cloth especially in the Baganda people, animal hides in Batwa tribes and others.
Religion in Uganda ; Uganda is a worship country, most of the Uganda are Christians which takes 84% on the percentage population of the country in total , followed by the Muslims which takes 12% of the Uganda’s population and the rest percentage is shared by the remaining percentages.
Food in the pearl of Africa; the most consumed food in the pearl of Africa is the Matoke , Uganda is among the exporters of matoke in the whole world as it is claimed by the statistics. Most of the household basically live on the Matoke plantains and posho most especially by the people living in rural areas in the country thus Matoke is more served with Luwombo the course cooked in banana leaves is so delicious if test it when you visit the pearl of Africa, and other food staffs are widely consumed in the country like cassava, millet, sweet potatoes, Gnuts , green vegetables so many others are grown in the Uganda.
Drinks in Uganda ; Uganda also has variety of local drinks like Malwa made from millet mostly consumed in eastern the Iteso group of people, Kwete made from cassava flour and millet with sorghum, Bushera also from millet more consumed in western Uganda, local waragi made from bananas and much more. Most of the local drinks are consumed by the rural areas especially in the western and eastern region of the country.
Cultural sites in Uganda; Uganda has many cultural sites which makes the country’s unique for culture one of the foremost is the Kasubi Tomb the world heritage site where you find the best grass hatched house where the late kings of Buganda Tribe a laid and the Balangira family members where the king of Buganda came from are also laid around the site, the Buganda royal mile where all the Buganda clans statue are and visit the kings palace to learn more about kingdom of Buganda there are many historical sites in the palace like Amin toucher chambers, the first gun in Uganda, the first presidents car is kings palace among others.
